Description

- Know & understand the main properties of solvents, & anticipate their effects on chemical reactivity, particularly their impact on reaction rate & selectivity

- Discover & make aware of alternative solvents & reagents enabling the development of ‘greener’ synthetic routes

- Design & implement environmentally friendly conditions in organic synthesis 

*** Why shifting from standard to alternative reagents & solvents? An introduction in the Green Chemistry context.

*** Alternative reagents – Focus on C1 sources (CO2, formaldehyde, etc.) and alternative alkylating agents, corbonylation agents etc.  

*** Alternative solvents/media – Description within the Green Chemistry context, scope of applications in organic synthesis & representative examples of use in industry. Focus on solvent-free chem, water, supercritical solvents, ionic liquids, deep eutectic solvents, perfluorinated solvents, biomass-derived solvents

Compétences requises

Tools & strategies in organic synthesis 1 & 2 (M1) – Basics in organometallics (M1) – Knowledge of Green Chem principles & familiarity with the related green metrics

Compétences visées

- Identify the optimal solvent conditions best suited to a chemical reaction/synthesis

- Design in a rationale manner a ‘greener’ route for the synthesis of a product of interest by exploiting alternative reagents &/or solvents

- Design, develop and implement chemical synthesis processes within a context of sustainable development
