Description
The objective of this teaching unit is to make students aware of the main ‘green’ solvents and modes of activation currently available to organic chemists.
- Why shifting from standard to alternative solvents and modes of activation ? An introduction in the context of Green Chemistry.
- Modern solvents/media – Description within the Green Chemistry context, scope of applications in organic synthesis & representative examples of use in Industry. Focus on : water, ionic liquids, deep eutectic solvents, supercritical solvents, perfluorinated solvents, biomass-derived solvents, solvent-free chem.
- Alternative modes of activation – Description within the Green Chemistry context & scope of applications in organic synthesis. Focus on : photochem, high pressure chem, microwave chem, mechanochem, sonochem, flow chem.
Compétences requises
Chimie organique avancée (CO1 & CO2 du M1S1) / Technologies vues en M1 (CO4)
Compétences visées
- Anticipate & understand the effects of solvents and activation modes on relevant organic transformations.
- Design in a rationale manner a ‘greener’ route for the synthesis of a product of interest by exploiting modern solvents and activation modes.
- Apply environmentally-friendly technologies/methods in organic synthesis.
