Ø  Surface electronic structure: electronic properties of surfaces, work function, surface dipoles

Ø  Solid-liquid and solid-solid interfaces

Ø  Adsorption on solid surfaces

Ø  Impact of synthetic strategies on film surfaces

Ø  Effect of surfaces in low-dimensional systems (focus: semiconductors) and devices

 Part 2: Techniques to investigate surface

Ø  Electron based techniques: Low-energy electron diffraction, photoelectron spectroscopy and diffraction

Ø  Photon based methods: absorption spectroscopies and X-ray diffraction

Ø  Scanning probe techniques: scanning tunneling microscopy, atomic force microscopy

 Recent state-of-the-art research articles will complement the proposed course
